Lafayette Swimming and Diving Swept at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Bucknell in the final dual meet of the season on Saturday at Bucknell. The Lafayette men dropped a 181-101 decision to the Bison, while the Leopard women fell 191-101.

Senior Chris Grabowski (Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville Area) paced the Leopards with a trio of first-place finishes. He claimed the 100 backstroke in 52.91, the 200 backstroke in 1:53.66 and the 200 IM in 1:57.79.

Greg Van Volkenburg (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) finished second behind Grabowski in the 100 back and 200 IM, while Kristopher Klein (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) gave the Leopards a one-two-three finish in the 200 IM.
 

 

Other winners for Lafayette were Jakub Pritz (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) in the 50 freestyle (21.68) and the 800 freestyle relay of Pritz, Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood), Stephen Connlain (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Janis Eisl (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) in 7:26.05.

The Lafayette women had their best showings in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Tory Littlefield (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) took first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.40), while Maura Dailey (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Twp.) and Ashley Posey (Martztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) gave the Leopards a one-two-three finish. Lafayette repeated the feat in the 200 IM, as Michelle Oswald (Timonium, Md./Carver Center) took first in 2:17.48, followed by Carrie Abildgaard (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) and Daniele Menard (Westwood, Mass./Westwood).

Lafayette's other first place came in the 800 freestyle relay, as the team of Sara Berberich (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch), Veronica LaMura (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), Jenny Moerschbacher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) and Lindsay McCarthy (Peabody, Mass./Beverly) touched the wall in 8:17.83.

Lafayette's men's and women's teams return to action on Feb. 14, visiting Bucknell again for the Patriot League Invitational.
