Men's Swimming Falls to Colgate, 148.5-142.5

HAMILTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's swimming team claimed first place in 11 events, but Colgate swept all the diving points in a 148.5-142.5 victory over the Leopards on Thursday.

Chris Grabowski (Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville Area) recorded three individual first-place finishes and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team. Grabowski claimed the 100 backstroke (53.54), 200 backstroke (1:54.34) and 400 IM (4:14.93). He joined Jakub Pritz (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains,N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) and Greg Van Volkenburg (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) on the 400 medley relay (3:38.40).

Pritz collected a total of four first places, winning the 50 freestyle (22.46) and 100 freestyle (49.26). He also swam the second leg on the victorious 200 freestyle relay that included Van Volkenburg, Stephen Connlain (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and John Veltri (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence).

Berkowitz claimed an individual first place in the 200 butterfly (1:59.34) and finished in a dead heat with Colgate's Rich Derrick in the 500 freestyle (4:51.70).

Lafayette returns to action on Jan. 24, hosting Georgetown at 2 p.m.
