Aaron Mahaney begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Leopards.

“We are fortunate to have Aaron returning to our swimming program,” said head coach Jim Dailey. “He brings great competitive experience and technical knowledge back to the team.”

A graduate of Easton High School, Mahaney swam four years for the Michigan State University team, where he was a four-time letterwinner. He was named the squad’s Freshman of the Year in 1999 and the Most Valuable Performer in 2002.

Mahaney competed in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials and has already qualified for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly. His credentials also include being a two-time recipient of the United States Swimming Scholastic All-American Award.

“Aaron’s first year with the program went very well,” Dailey said. “He was immediately respected by the student-athletes. The great performances of the swimmers at the 2003 Patriot League Championships were a result of Aaron’s commitment, dedication and drive to excel.”

After graduating from Michigan State, Mahaney remained with the Spartans as a volunteer assistant swimming coach from August through December 2002. Prior to that, he served as an assistant swim coach and swim lesson instructor at the Atlantis Aquatic Club in the Lehigh Valley.

A 2002 graduate of Michigan State, Mahaney received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with Cognates in Athletic Administration and Sports Psychology.
