Dec. 13, 2005
EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomores Scott Hawkins (Whippany, N.J./Whippany) and Luke Sullivan (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2005 Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team.
Hawkins and Sullivan add the NSCAA honor to the All-Patriot League First-Team selections that were announced in early November.
In just two years at Lafayette, Hawkins has established himself as the Leopards' top goal scorer. As a freshman, he led the team with five goals and finished with 13 points en route to Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. In 2005, he again led Lafayette in goals scored with six, and was credited with four game-winners. Hawkins, an Economics and Business major, has played in 37 career games with 33 starts.
Sullivan has started every game that he has played in during his career on College Hill, clocking time in 34 games. In 2005, Sullivan scored four goals and added an assist. He netted the game-winning goal in the Patriot League Tournament championship game on Nov. 13 and in the process helped Lafayette earn its fourth NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history and second in three years. The Biology major has been a staple in the Lafayette defensive corps. He helped guide the 'Pards defense to seven shutouts in 2005 and a 0.86 goals against average.
Lafayette finished the season with a 13-5-2 mark and its sixth Patriot League championship, the most among any of the eight schools in the conference. Lafayette moved past archrival Lehigh on Nov. 11 to open the Patriot League Tournament and closed the deal by shutting out American (Nov. 13) on its home field to capture the Patriot League championship. The Leopards' season came to an end on Nov. 18 with a 3-0 loss at No. 11 Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Creighton went on to beat Duke and Penn State on its way to an NCAA Quarterfinal loss to NCAA Final Four team Clemson.
