Leopard Men's Soccer Places Three on NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region Team
Nov. 29, 2006 EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer program has placed three student-athletes on the 2006 NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region Team. Senior Thomas Harju (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce) and juniors Luke Sullivan (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Scott Hawkins (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) have been named to the Second Team. "This is great recognition for Thomas to end his career with," said Lafayette head coach Dennis Bohn. "For Luke and Scott, this is the second year that they have been honored by the NSCAA. I hope that they can continue their level of play and parlay these individual accolades into increased team success in 2007." Harju, who was an All-Patriot League First-Team selection in his junior and senior seasons, adds this most recent honor at the end of a stellar career in a Lafayette uniform. The senior leaves College Hill with 32 career assists, the second-best mark in the Lafayette recordbooks. More importantly during his career, Lafayette won Patriot League titles in 2003 and 2005 and twice competed in the NCAA Tournament. Sullivan and Hawkins were All-Patriot League First Team and NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team selections in 2005 and followed that with All-Patriot League Second Team and NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team honors in 2006. A defender, Sullivan served as a team captain in his junior season and helped guide a Lafayette defense that allowed less than a goal per game in conference play. He also finished fourth on the team in scoring with five goals, including a game-winner at Holy Cross. Hawkins, a forward, has been an offensive go-to player since his arrival at Lafayette. This season he led the team in scoring with eight goals and two assists, including the game-winning goals over Patriot League foes Army, Bucknell and Colgate. The former Patriot League Rookie of the Year currently ranks ninth in career goals with 19. Lafayette continues to be the model of success in the Patriot League, claiming a conference-best six Patriot League men's soccer crowns. The Leopards advanced to the 2006 Patriot League Tournament title game, but their season came to an end in penalty kicks against a surprise Bucknell squad that went on to win its NCAA Tournament first round matchup.
