Moyse, Vare Named Second Team All-Patriot League

Nov. 6, 2017

EASTON, Pa. – Senior Christian Moyse and sophomore Evan Vare of the Lafayette men’s soccer team were named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Moyse, the lone captain of the 2017 squad, has been a staple on the back line of the Leopards’ defense for four years, starting in every game since he stepped on campus. The center back from Melville, N.Y. had his best offensive season of his career this fall, scoring three goals, with two coming against Patriot League opponents.

The senior tallied the lone marker in the team’s 1-0 victory over Bucknell to open Patriot League play, and added a penalty kick that was the eventual game-winner in the victory over Colgate on Oct. 21. The all-league honor is the third of Moyse’s career, being named to the second team in 2015 and the third team in 2016. Additionally, he was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week selection during his final year for the Maroon and White.

On the other side of the field, Vare backed up a stellar rookie season in 2016 with another solid campaign in his sophomore year. The Jamison, Pa. native scored seven goals this season, including a hat trick in the win over Navy on Oct. 25.

Vare led the Leopards in scoring and shots on goal, putting 21 efforts on target over the course of his 16 games played. His seven goals were good enough for a tie for fourth among his Patriot League counterparts.

Lafayette ended its season this past weekend with a 4-14 overall record, going 3-6 in Patriot League play.
