EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette men’s soccer junior Ryan Dodds was one of four midfielders to claim a spot on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District II First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced Thursday.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic regions, with District II consisting of institutions located in Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Each team honors a goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders, three forwards and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

A native of West Chester, Pa., Dodds has twice been named to the Patriot League’s Academic Honor Roll and maintains a 3.79 grade-point average as a Mechanical Engineering major. The Leopards’ midfielder is coming off a 3.88 GPA in the spring semester and is currently enjoying his most productive season on the field. Dodds has started in all 15 games for the Maroon and White and has a goal and an assist to his credit. His tally came in the 88th minute on a volley that helped the Leopards earn a 2-2 draw against La Salle, and then assisted Lafayette’s lone marker in a tie against Quinnipiac.

Dodds was one of five Patriot League players recognized for the prestigious honor and will be considered for the Capital One Academic All-America Team. Joining Dodds on the list were four seniors, Loyola’s Thurman Van Riper (GK), Bucknell’s Joe Meyer (D) and Navy’s duo of Dave Arnold (M) and Zach Davis (D).
