Kudos for Kamine
Oct. 5, 2009
EASTON, Pa. - Two shutouts, two wins and a goal added up to a highly successful week for Justin Kamine and the Lafayette men's soccer team. Kamine, who scored the overtime game winner on Saturday night against Lehigh, was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The Leopards opened last week with a 2-0 shutout of Villanova on Wednesday and followed that with a 1-0 blanking of archrival Lehigh on Saturday night in which Kamine scored the game-winning goal in overtime, his first goal of the season. The goal was the third of his career and his second career game winner.
Kamine, a junior, has started all 10 games this fall. The Lafayette defense has recorded seven shutouts and opponents have scored just eight goals in those 10 games.
With the two victories, the Leopards remain a perfect 5-0-0 at home this season and remain undefeated (2-0-0) in Patriot League play. Lafayette (7-2-1, 2-0-0) has now won six of its last nine matches against Lehigh and has not lost at home to the Mountain Hawks since 1997.
Kamine is a Policy Studies and Economics and Business double major with a concentration in Public Policy. This semester, Kamine is enrolled courses that include Econometrics, History of Human Rights and Africa, and Introduction to Sociology.
He is also the Vice President of the Policy in Action Club. This past spring, he and varsity baseball player Brad Weiss '10, also a Policy Studies major, led a movement that focused on creating a green movement on campus which called for maximizing energy use and creating a more self-reliant energy source for the school.
The Leopards have the week to prepare for their Saturday road game against league opponent American. The match will start at 1 p.m.
