Moyse Tabbed as PL Defensive Player of the Week

Sept. 25, 2017

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior captain Christian Moyse of the Lafayette men’s soccer team was selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Moyse led a defensive unit that put forth a pair of stellar defensive efforts in a split week for the Maroon and White. On Wednesday against Albany, a team that entered the contest seventh in the nation in scoring offense, Lafayette shut out the Great Danes for more than 90 minutes, falling in overtime by a 1-0 score. The Leopards allowed 11 shots on the day, but just three on target, with two being saved by senior goalkeeper Brian Ehrlich.

Dubbing the Albany match a “springboard game and confidence booster” heading into Patriot League play, Moyse backed up that sentiment, scoring the lone goal and leading a clean-sheet effort against Bucknell on Saturday. His goal came off a corner, sending a well-taken header into the right-side netting in the 42nd minute.

The win and the shutout were both firsts for the Leopards on the season, moving their overall record to 1-7, but 1-0 in Patriot League action. They’ll have the week to prepare for their next contest, traveling to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
