Sept. 19, 2007

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette goalie Philip Nelson was named the ECAC's Co-Defender of the Week after recording two consecutive shutouts at last weekend's Penn Soccer Classic. Nelson also earned Patriot League honors earlier this week, being named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week.

Nelson and the Lafayette defense held La Salle scoreless in a 1-0 win on the first day of the tournament. The Leopards then faced Hartwick on Sunday, with Nelson recording his second straight shutout in a scoreless tie against the Hawks. It also marked his third shutout of the season, tying him for 13th on Lafayette's single-season shutout list.

This season, the Mechanical Engineering major is second in the Patriot League with a goals-against average of 0.62 and a save percentage of .840. Nelson has played every minute of Lafayette's six matches this season while allowing just four goals.

The Leopards (3-1-2) are riding a four match unbeaten streak and host Philadelphia University on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game is the first of a three match homestand, culminating in a Patriot League match-up against archrival Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
