Golini Selected to Preseason All-Patriot League Team

Aug 20, 2013

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lafayette’s leading goal scorer and first-team selection a season ago, Alec Golini, was honored with a spot on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, it was announced Tuesday. In addition to Golini’s recognition, the defending champion Leopards were picked fourth in the conference’s preseason poll.

Golini tallied seven goals from his midfield position in 2012, including three game-winning scores and was chosen to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team following Lafayette’s win over American in the title game. The Preseason All-Patriot League Team is chosen by a vote of the League’s 10 head coaches, while the preseason poll is picked by the coaches and sports information directors of each institution.

The Leopards collected 115 points and three first-place votes behind last year’s regular-season champion American (151 points, nine first-place votes) and newcomers Boston University (130, three) and Loyola Maryland (121, four). Behind Lafayette was Colgate (98, one), the only other squad to claim a first-place nod, Bucknell (87), Navy (67) and Lehigh (51). Holy Cross (44) and Army (36) rounded out the poll.

Lafayette opens its 100th anniversary season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Oaks Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff versus La Salle. Conference play begins on Sept. 28 on the road against Colgate.
