Men’s Soccer Completes Coaching Staff

Aug. 17, 2017

EASTON, Pa. – Head coach Dennis Bohn of the Lafayette men’s soccer program announced the addition of two assistant coaches on Thursday afternoon. Brandon Kates and Gabriel Robinson will join fourth-year coach Jorge Chapoy on Bohn’s staff for the 2017 season.

Kates, a Cherry Hill, N.J. native, spent the last four seasons at the Division III level, coaching for two years under former Lafayette assistant Nate Gibboney at Lycoming College in 2013 and 2014. Lycoming made the MAC Commonwealth championship game each of his two seasons, capturing the program’s first title in school history in 2013.

In 2015, Kates returned to Susquehanna, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2013. He was the program’s top assistant, helping his team to back-to-back Landmark Conference semifinal appearances.

Prior to his coaching career, Kates was a three-year starter at center back for Susquehanna, starting in 58 consecutive games. He was a two-time First-Team All-Landmark Conference performer, as well as a NSCAA First-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honoree and a D3Soccer.com Third-Team All-American in 2012. Additionally, he was selected to the Landmark Conference All-Decade Team as a defender this past fall.

Robinson, a local product from Easton, comes to College Hill after two-year stints through his college playing career at Cincinnati and Duquesne. He graduated from the latter last December with a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts.

The 2011 Morning Call and Express Times Player of the Year, Robinson was a standout player at Easton High School, named to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection while at Cincinnati, earning honors by both the Big East and American Athletic Conferences.

Robinson has playing experience in the Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls youth academies and still works with the Red Bulls as a Youth Trainer, developing training programs and working in the pre-academy regional development school.

The Maroon and White open up their 2017 season on Aug. 25, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at Mike Bourger ’44 Field at Oaks Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
