Men's Soccer Adds to Coaching Staff

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette head men's soccer coach Dennis Bohn has announced that Nate Gibboney and Michael Hurley will join his staff as an assistant coaches for the Leopards.

"We are very fortunate to have two high caliber coaches join our staff," Bohn said. "Their work ethic and knowledge will be very beneficial to our program. Nate is a tireless worker who has great experience as a college coach and recruiter. Mike is a tremendous communicator with contagious energy and spirit. I know both of them will connect very well with our players and embrace the ideals of Lafayette College."

Gibboney comes to College Hill fresh off a three-year stint as the assistant coach at Vassar College while Hurley boasts years of coaching experience in youth soccer.

Gibboney spent the 2007-09 seasons at Vassar where he assisted with all aspects of coaching and served as the interim head coach in the spring of 2009. The 2009 Vassar coaching staff was recognized as the Co-Liberty Coaching Staff of the Year for a squad that also included the Player of the Year. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Gibboney oversaw and organized the program's recruitment of student-athletes.

Prior to his three years at Vassar, Gibboney served as the assistant coach at Westminster College from 2005-07. He assisted in every aspect of the program and helped coach the team to the 2006 PAC championship team. Gibboney was also Westminster's junior varsity head coach.

Gibboney was a student-athlete at Susquehanna, the alma mater of current Lafayette assistant coach Justin Makar. He was a four-year starter for the Crusaders' soccer team as well as a two-year captain. He was the 2004 Defensive Player of the Year and a 2004 First Team Middle-Atlantic Conference player.

Gibboney holds the NSCAA Advanced National and Goalkeeping Coaches Licenses and is a certified PIAA soccer official. He graduated from Susquehanna in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration and received his Master of Education degree from Westminster in July, 2007.

 

 

Michael Hurley


Hurley has a wealth of coaching experience at the youth level. He is currently a member of the NJSA 04 (New Jersey Soccer Academy) coaching staff. NJSA is a USSF Developmental Academy Club. Hurley previously spent three years with the Ocean Soccer Club. His other coaching experiences include working with the Neptune Soccer Club and at the Northwestern University College Soccer Training Center.

Hurley had both a standout high school and collegiate playing career. He was an All-State player at Neptune High School (N.J.) where he won the 1981 state championship and is a member of Neptune's Athletics Hall of Fame. He attended Richard Stockton College and was a four-year starter and team captain. He earned All-NJAC honors twice during his career and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Computer Science.

Currently, Hurley is a senior account manager at Global Crossing and has worked in telecommunications for over 20 years. He has two children, Kyle and Shane, and resides in Wall, NJ.

The Leopards open their 2010 season on Sept. 1 with a 5 p.m. game at Rider.
