EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men’s soccer head coach Dennis Bohn has announced the addition of A.J. Barnold as an assistant coach. In addition to Barnold’s hiring, assistant coach Justin Makar has been promoted to Bohn’s top assistant following the departure of Nate Gibboney, who was hired as the head coach at Lycoming College.
Barnold comes to the Leopards from nearby Muhlenberg College, where he served as an assistant coach for the past two years and was involved in all aspects of the program, including film analysis, scouting and recruiting. Barnold is currently the head coach of FC Lehigh Valley United’s 1999 Boys team, a position he has held since 2011. Barnold has worked as an instructor at several area soccer camps and has also served as an adjunct lecturer at Muhlenberg since his arrival. Prior to his tenure at Muhlenberg, Barnold was an assistant at Arcadia University from 2009-2011.
As an undergraduate, Barnold was a three-year starter at center back at Muhlenberg. In his senior year, Barnold was an All-Centennial Conference First Team and Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll selection. In 40 career starts on defense, he led the Mules to 19 shutouts.
He graduated Cum Laude from Muhlenberg in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology, and during his time at Arcadia, Barnold earned his Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Psychology from Temple University.
