Men's Soccer Edged at Lehigh, 1-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Last season, Justin Kamine scored an overtime goal to break a scoreless tie and give the Lafayette men's soccer team a 1-0 win over historic rival Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks returned the favor on Saturday night in Bethlehem, finding the net in the 76th minute to down the visiting Leopards, 1-0.
The Leopards fall to 5-3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League. The loss snaps a three-match unbeaten streak overall as well as a three-match unbeaten streak in the series with the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh improves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1 in league play with the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Pianko extended a personal streak in the loss, as he has allowed just one goal or fewer in eight of his nine starts this season. Pianko made five saves in the contest.
After 75 minutes of scoreless soccer, Lehigh's Austin Decker broke the tie with a strike to the far post that got past Pianko at the 75:36 mark. The goal, which was assisted by James Meyerkord, was Decker's second of 2010.
The Leopards nearly answered with the equalizer in the 80th minute, as a shot by senior Stephen Macurdy got past Lehigh goalkeeper Jonathan Nydell, but was cleared by Kevin Strunk before breaking the plain of the goal line.
Nydell made three saves for the Mountain Hawks in the shutout.
The Leopards return to the pitch at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium next Saturday, as Patriot League play continues against American. The match against the Eagles, who won at Army this evening to move to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in league play, is slated for 7 p.m.
