Leopards Drop Road Battle at La Salle
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer team continued to prepare for the Patriot League slate with a non-conference road contest at La Salle on Saturday evening, falling by a 2-1 score.
Both defenses played strong over the opening 45 minutes as neither team could get much going offensively. Things opened up in the second stanza though, as tallies in the 47th and 72nd minutes gave the home side the advantage.
Then, senior Christian Moyse came through for the Leopards, scoring late to make it a flurry over the final minutes. Unfortunately, though, there wasn't time for an equalizer.
Just out of the halftime break, Mathias Patino found Matt Robinson to beat a Lafayette defender and senior goalie Brian Ehrlich for the 1-0 lead. Then, later in the half, Soji Olatoye played Kenny Lassiter into the box in front of goal and Lassiter beat Ehrlich for the insurance tally.
Off an initial shot from Colin Morrissey, Moyse corralled a rebound in front late and was able to beat the La Salle keeper to cut into the deficit. That was all the scoring for the Maroon and White, though, as the clock sounded on a 2-1 final.
Ehrlich put in a solid performance between the pipes, tallying eight saves on the evening. Shots were 13-8 in favor of the Explorers and both teams were able to work three corners.
Lafayette has one more non-conference contest on Wednesday, hosting Albany at 7 p.m. Patriot League action begins on Saturday at Oaks Stadium as the Leopards welcome Bucknell for a 1 p.m. tilt.
