Basti, Doctor Join Men's Lacrosse Staff

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's lacrosse head coach Terry Mangan has announced the hiring of two assistant coaches that are set to join the Leopard program. Including the addition of volunteer assistant Bill Lawson earlier this year, Jon Basti and Chris Doctor have been named assistant coaches for the 2007-08 seasons.

"I am thrilled that Jon and Chris have joined our program," Mangan said. "Their knowledge and enthusiasm are contagious, and I am already seeing their positive impact on our kids."

Basti comes to College Hill to take the role as the top assistant to the Leopard lacrosse program. For the past three seasons, Basti served as an assistant at Fairfield University in his second stint with the Stags. Involved in day-to-day operations of the program, Basti worked as assistant offensive coordinator, while overseeing the face-off men and game tape breakdown.

Prior to Fairfield, Basti served as the head coach at Eastern Connecticut State University from 2002 to 2004. While directing the Warriors, Basti posted a 22-9 career record while winning two Little East Conference Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths.

During Basti's first go-around with the Stags, he helped Fairfield to a MAAC regular-season championship, to go along with two ECAC Tournament crowns. He was also a member of the 1996 and 1997 MAAC Championship teams.

He also worked as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart University, where he was in charge of face-offs and the defensive unit from 2000 to 2002.

Basti graduated from Fairfield in 1999 with a double-major, Politics and History. He also completed work on minors in Economics and Communications. He earned his Master's Degree in Education/Social Studies, from Fairfield in 2002.

Basti was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and now lives in Easton, Pa.
 

 

Chris Doctor joins head coach Terry Mangan's staff after recently completely his education and playing career at Rutgers University. While attending Rutgers, Doctor was a four-year letterman on the lacrosse team. In his final season in Piscataway, he totaled a career-high 14 goals and eight assists in the 2007 season.

During his junior year, Doctor appeared in 14 games, starting in 10 of those contests. He scored 10 goals and 11 assists for a 21-point campaign. His sophomore season saw was highlighted by a three-goal, one assist showing at Manhattan College. He finished with 16 points on the year, tied for second highest on the Scarlet Knight squad.

He was the most productive member of the team during his freshman year when he appeared in all 14 games, making six starts. He notched 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists, including 11 points in the first three games of his collegiate career.

Doctor has been a member of the 2Knights Lacrosee program for the past three years, taking part as an instructor of the youth program for elite high school players.

Doctor originally hails from Skaneateles, N.Y. and resides in Easton, Pa.
