Terranova, DeMatteo Accept D-II, D-III Head Coaching Nods
EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette men’s lacrosse assistant coach Mike Terranova and Lafayette men’s soccer assistant coach Steven DeMatteo have each accepted head coaching positions at D-II Chestnut Hill University and D-III Manhattanville College, the programs announced on Tuesday.
Terranova returns to Chestnut Hill as its head coach after spending five years as an assistant there prior to joining the Leopards. He was part of the Chestnut Hill men’s lacrosse program inception in 2009 and ran the offense there, a unit that averaged more than 11 goals per game.
Terranova completed his fourth season on head coach Jim Rogalski’s staff this past spring, his first as the team’s offensive coordinator. His first three seasons were spent at the volunteer level, focusing primarily on face-offs.
DeMatteo takes over at Manhattanville after two seasons on the sidelines at Oaks Stadium. A graduate of William Patterson University and a two-year assistant at Arcadia University before coming to Lafayette, DeMatteo returns to the D-III level for his first head coaching opportunity.
DeMatteo was integral in recruiting Lafayette’s stellar freshman class this past fall, a group that featured forward Evan Vare, who earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 12 and Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurels on Oct. 15. Additionally, the team improved by two wins from his first to second seasons, missing out on the Patriot League Tournament in 2016 by a single game.
Searches are underway for Terranova’s and DeMatteo’s replacements. Continue to check in with GoLeopards.com as those announcements become available.
