Galassi Takes Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week Honors
April 10, 2006 EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Freshman attack John Galassi (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) earned Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in 2006 with a hat trick in Lafayette's 8-7 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. Galassi scored Lafayette's first two goals, then struck again in the third quarter as the Leopards put together seven straight scores to take a 7-1 lead. After the Crusaders rallied to tie the game at 7-all, Galassi found Andrew Horton for the game-winning goal with 1:17 remaining to give the Leopards their first Patriot League victory of the season. The freshman also garnered mention after putting together one of the top goal scoring games of the 2006 season in Division I Men's Lacrosse. Galassi scored seven goals in the Leopards' 14-5 win over Wagner on March 11, one of four games with at least seven goals by an individual player in the nation this year. Galassi is Lafayette's leading scorer with 16 goals and two assists with three games remaining in his freshman campaign. The Leopards will play at Marist on Tuesday before resuming Patriot League action on Saturday, April 15 at Colgate. Lafayette will host Lehigh in the final game of the regular season on Friday, April 21 at Rappolt Field.
