EASTON, Pa. - Army scored twice in the second quarter to separate itself from Lafayette in an 8-6 victory for the visiting Black Knights on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field. Brian Bock scored two goals and Sonny Round had two assists to lead Lafayette offensively.

Jake Hyatt made 16 saves in goal for Lafayette, as Army held a 43-16 advantage in shots. The Black Knights also won 11-of-17 faceoffs and John Glesener scored three goals in the win.

Lafayette (1-2, 1-1 Patriot) opened the scoring nine minutes into the first quarter when Robert Orazietti ripped a shot past Army backstop Sam Somers for his fourth tally of the year. The Black Knights continued to apply pressure offensively and responded with a goal to level the score two minutes later when Cole Johnson beat Hyatt with 4:18 showing on the first quarter clock.

After recording an 11-3 edge in shots through the first 15 minutes, Army's offensive attack persisted in the second quarter and added a pair of goals before halftime to secure a 3-1 lead at the break. Connor Cook's marker put Army up at 11:23, before Al DeStefano added one with 7:14 remaining in the half. Hyatt made 10 of his 16 saves before intermission as Army held a 23-5 advantage in shots.

The Black Knights (3-1, 1-0 Patriot) added a fourth goal early in the third quarter when Johnson took a feed from A.J. Canara and slotted it past Hyatt for his second goal of the game. Trailing 4-1, Lafayette answered a little more than two minutes later when Bock netted his fifth goal of 2014. Army won the ensuing faceoff before Luke Poulos hit the post with a shot and Matt Evans collected the ground ball. Lafayette's clear attempt failed and the Black Knights regained the three-goal cushion on Glesener'shot past Hyatt.

Cook scored again to push Army's lead to 6-2 on an assist by Will Mazzone, but Lafayette brought the deficit back to three when Dillon Confalone caught a pass from Round and found the back of the net with 4:54 to play in the period. The Black Knights had a response, though, as Glesener completed his hat trick to put Army up 7-3 heading into the fourth.

Erik Cannon won the opening faceoff of the quarter and Lafayette pulled within three when Morgan Westby converted Round's second assist of the day. Following turnovers by each team and a save by Hyatt, Lafayette called timeout to set up offensively. Out of the stoppage, Bock scored to make it a two-goal game with 9:15 to play.

Lafayette was unable to get any closer than two goals as Mazzone scored with 7:33 on the clock (8-5) and Round added one with 3:42 to go, running the final total to 8-6. Somers finished with five saves in goal for Army.

Lafayette returns to the field on Tuesday, March 4, when it travels to Newark, Del. for a non-conference matchup with Delaware. Opening faceoff against the Blue Hens is scheduled for 4 p.m.
