EASTON, Pa. -
Lafayette head golf coach Jim Hutnik '78 recently announced the addition of six freshmen as part of the Class of 2015.
Lafayette, fresh off a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championships in May, welcomes Robert Dyer, Doug Fernandez, Morgan Grasz, Kirk Massie, Phil Rosengarden and Mike Zausmer to College Hill.
"This group has some highly ranked recruits and will be expected to contribute to our team immediately," Hutnik said. "We need them to step up and fill the void left by last year's senior class."
Dyer was a two-sport athlete at The Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio, earning varsity letters in golf and basketball. Fernandez had an 11th place finish in the 2011 state tournament, playing his high school golf at Ithaca High School in Ithaca, N.Y. Grasz played lacrosse and golf at Cohasset High School in Cohasset, Mass. and was part of two league titles, while being named a two-time league all-star.
Massie, a native of Westport, Conn., played golf at Staples High School, where he helped his team to two league championships. Rosengarden was a three-year letterwinner at Jesuit Prep in Dallas, Texas. Zausmer rounds out the freshmen class after a standout career at Detroit Country Day School in Bloomfield, Mich., where he was named all-state as a junior and senior.
The six newcomers join the Leopards' squad led by Carter Rufe, a 2010-11 First-Team All-Patriot League selection, and Rob Robertson, named Second-Team All-Patriot League last year, each of who return to Lafayette for their senior seasons.
Lafayette opens its 2011 fall season on Saturday, when it travels to Annapolis, Md. for the two-day Navy Invitational Tournament.
