EASTON, Pa. -
Carter Rufe has been named to the 2012 Division I PING All-Region Northeast Team announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday evening. The senior had three top ten finishes this past spring, including a third place mark at the Patriot League Championship.
Rufe was the lone Patriot League golfer on the regional teams, which included 155 selections. In addition to being honored by the GCAA, Rufe was recently recognized as Lafayette’s MVP and the Robert Fulton Jr. Award winner.
The Fulton Award is given in the name of the late Bobby Fulton, a Lafayette who was tragically killed in an auto accident by a drunk driver before he could finish his college career. The award was instituted by his father, Robert Fulton Sr. and is given annually to the Lafayette College Golfer who most embodies Bobby’s character, sportsmanship, leadership and dedication to the golf team and Lafayette College.
Rufe’s accolades come after completing his career with his second First Team All-Patriot League selection. During the spring season, Rufe won the Lafayette Spring Invitational for the second consecutive year and took medalist honors at the Lehigh Valley Cup. His lowest round of the campaign came in the final round of the Lafayette Spring Invitational as he carded a 66 on the final 18 holes to force a playoff and claim the individual title with a birdie on the first hole. Rufe averaged 74.5 strokes per round in the spring.
