Kafafian & Zausmer Honored at Team Banquet
May 13, 2013
EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette golf program recently held its annual banquet and alumni golf outing. Sophomore Mike Zausmer was named the team's Most Valuable Player and senior captain David Kafafian earned the Fulton Award.
The Fulton Award is given in the name of the late Bobby Fulton, who was tragically killed in an auto accident by a drunk driver before he could finish his college career. The award was instituted by his father, Robert Fulton Sr., and is given annually to the Lafayette golfer who most embodies Bobby's character, sportsmanship, leadership and dedication to the golf team and Lafayette College.
Zausmer led the Leopards in many of the squad's competitions throughout both the spring and the fall seasons. The highlights of Zausmer's spring were finishing 13th at the talent-rich Florida Atlantic University Spring Break Championship, earning Patriot League Golf of the Month honors (March 2013) and backing that up by finishing 18th at the Lafayette Invitational.
A member of the 2013 Academic All-Patriot League Teaem, Kafafian finished tied for 11th at the Army Last Chance Classic. The team captain also won his singles match 2 and 1 in the 2012 Lafayette vs. Lehigh President's Cup competition as the Leopards completed a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over their rival. As the season culminated at the 2013 Patriot League Championship, Kafafian finished tied for 18th, helping guide Lafayette to a 5th-place finish.
Lafayette finished fifth at the 2013 Patriot League Championships and the future looks bright for the Leopards as three freshmen and a sophomore finished in the top 30.
