EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette golf team clinched its first berth in the NCAA Regionals in school history by winning the Patriot League Championship on April 25. The Leopards will be traveling to New Haven Conn. to play at The Yale University Golf Course May 20-22. The Yale University Golf Course features a par 70, 6,749 yard course and Yale is the host school for that region and 13 other teams will join Lafayette.In order of seed, UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, East Tennessee State, Southeastern Louisiana, Charlotte, Kent State, Vanderbilt, Penn State, North Carolina-Wilmington and Columbia will join the Leopards. Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 20-22. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Head coach Jim Hutnik was named Patriot League Coach of the Year while Rob Robertson led the Leopards with the best score of 221 at the end of the weekend followed by Josh Edelson and Tyler Ostrovsky with 224 and 227 respectively. Robertson earned Patriot League Player of the Year and First-Team All-League honors, edging out Lehigh's top performer by just one stroke with a final-round 77. Edelson also earned a spot on the First-Team while Ostrovsky picked up Second-Team All-League accolades. In addition to The Yale University Golf Course, other regional venues are Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga., Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., Carlton Oaks Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., Traditions Club in College Station, Texas and Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. Finals will take place at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga on The Honors Course.
