GLADSTONE, N.J. - Lafayette's golf team rallied in the dark at renowned Hamilton Farm Golf Club to defeat Lehigh 7-6 Tuesday and claim the President's Cup in a dramatic finish. The Mountain Hawks needed 6.5 points to retain the cup, but Lafayette received singles wins from freshmen Ben DeForest and Chad Bellto win the cup.

The day-long event featured a Ryder Cup-style format. Play began in the morning on the 7,140-yard, par-72 Highlands Course with three better ball nine-hole doubles matches. Lehigh claimed 2.5 of a possible three points in the morning matches. The second nine holes in the morning featured doubles play with an alternate shot format. The Leopards picked up their first full point of the day as Deforest and Bell won 2 up, while the teams halved the other two matches and the Leopard trailed 3.5-2.5 at the midway point.

The afternoon session featured singles matches on the Hickory Course, the only 18-hole, USGA-rated par-three course in the country. The two squads split the first two matches with solid 6 and 4, 6 and 5 decisions. The third match was halved and the event looked promising for Lehigh.
