West Point, N.Y. - Lafayette freshman Garrett Sweeney tied for 38th at the Stars & Stripes Invitational hosted by Army, leading the Leopards to a ninth-place finish. Sweeney shot three rounds in the 70s (78-77-75--230) in harsh weather conditions both days on the par-69, 6,101-yard Robert Trent Jones-designed West Point Golf Course. The event provided an opportunity for Lafayette to gain experience at the site of the 2014 Patriot League Championship in April.
Army (841) won the event, finishing five strokes ahead of Loyola (846) and 31 strokes better than Lehigh (872). Army's Marcus Plunkett won the individual title with a two-under total of 205, leading three Black Knights in the top 10.
The Leopards are scheduled to play in the Monmouth Quad Match at Deal Country Club this Thursday, Oct. 10 and vs. Lehigh on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the annual President's Cup match at renowned Hamilton Farm Country Club.
