Leopards Take 5th at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. - Lafayette's golf team jumped from seventh to fifth place in the final round of the 13-team Cornell Invitational as three Leopards - sophomore Phil Rosengarden and freshmen Chad Bell and Ben DeForest - finished in a tie for 11th place.
Binghamton took first with a two-day total of 593 and had the overall medalist in Josh Holling. Fordham finished second, just four strokes back, followed by Cornell (604), Bucknell (605) and Lafayette (613).
Rosengarden led Lafayette in the final round with a one-over 73, tied for the second lowest score in the final round on the 6,890-yard, par-72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University.
Bell and DeForest followed up their stellar opening rounds with scores of 79 and 78, respectively, to match Rosengarden and two other competitors in a tie for 11th place with two-day totals of 151.
Sophomore Mike Zausmer fired a 78 and freshman Patrick Luther recorded a 77 helping Lafayette join Binghamton as the only two teams in the event to have all five student-athletes score in the 70s during the final round. Zausmer and Luther tied for 43rd place with two-day totals of 159.
Lafayette competes in the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational tomorrow in Delaware.
