Leopards 14th After Opening Round of FAU Spring Break Championship

The Lafayette golf team stands in 14th place after the opening round of the Florida Atlantic University Spring Break Championship, led by senior captain David Kafafian and sophomore Mike Zausmer who each carded a 73 on the 6,876-yard, par-71 North Course at The Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla.

Second round action begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Hartford leads the team scoring with a one-over 285, while Central Florida sits in second at 289, McNeese State third at 292, host Florida Atlantic fourth at 293 and Loyola-Chicago fifth at 294. Lafayette's team score of 302 is 17 strokes off the lead.

Individually, Kafafian and Zausmer sit in a 10-way tie for 18th place, five shots back of day-one leader Evan Russell of Hartford who fired a three-under 68.

Patrick Luther is tied for 43rd after carding a five-over 76 while Peter Gross and Chad Bell round out the Leopards' team scores with nine-over 80s to tie for 77th place.

Lafayette also has a "B" squad and two additional individuals competing in the Leopards' opening event for the spring season. Those seven scores include: Doug Fernandez (T43 - 76), Robert Dyer (T71 - 79), Travis Ricca (T86 - 82), Phil Rosengarden (T88 - 83), Ben DeForest (90 - 84), Kirk Massie (T91 - 86) and Josh Feinberg (93 - 87).
