In his 15th season as Leopards' head golf coach, Jim Hutnik is a 1978 graduate of Lafayette College and holds a degree in History.
In 2009-10, Hutnik coached Lafayette to the Patriot League Championship, was named Coach of the Year and mentored three All-Patriot League selections. Among them was the 2010 Patriot League Player of the Year, Rob Robertson.
After the 2003 season, the Patriot League honored Hutnik as Coach of the Year following the Leopards fourth place finish at the Patriot League Championships.
While on College Hill, Hutnik was a member of the men's basketball team and the golf team. He recently retired from Easton High School, where he taught American Government. Hutnik still is the varsity coach of the boys' basketball team and is entering his seventh season. In the 2006-07 season, Hutnik lead Easton to a perfect 24-0 regular season record.
He spent the previous 12 years as a head basketball and golf coach at Bethlehem Catholic High School, where he lead the golf team to two East Penn League Championships and was named 1999 Coach of the Year.
As head coach of the Bethlehem Catholic's varsity basketball team, Hutnik compiled a record of 222-111 and posted a winning record in each of his 12 campaigns. He led the Hawks to five appearances in the District XI championship game, winning the title twice. Hutnik was named Coach of the Year by the Express Times in 1995, 1998 and 2001, and was nominated for Pennsylvania's Coach of the Year award in 1998.
Prior to his time at Bethlehem Catholic, Hutnik was the head men's basketball and golf coach at Allentown College (now DeSales University) from 1988-1993. He also served as an assistant baseball coach. He tallied an 88-70 career mark over six seasons on the hardwood and led the team to its first Eastern States Athletic Conference championship and won 20 games for the first time in program history.
Hutnik also spent six years as an assistant basketball coach at the University at Maine, from 1981-87, following one season at Brandeis University where he was an assistant baseball and basketball coach. Hutnik was the junior varsity basketball coach at Lafayette from 1978-80.
