National Honors: Curley Selected as National Player of the Week

EASTON, Pa. - Two days after he shattered the Lafayette single-game record for touchdowns (five) by hurling seven scoring strikes against nationally-ranked Colgate, senior QB Rob Curley has been named National Player of the Week by The Sports Network and College Sporting News. The FCS honors goes along with his second straight Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurel and third of his career. Curley led Lafayette to a 56-49 shootout win over No. 20/18 Colgate. He completed 18-of-31 passes for a career-high 373 yards and seven touchdowns, tying the Patriot League mark for passing touchdowns in a game established by Holy Cross' Jeff Wiley against Lehigh (Sept. 26, 1987). The touchdowns went to five different players, including two in the fourth quarter to break a 42-42 tie, and his passing yardage was a career best for the third consecutive week. In 2009, Curley has thrown for 2,432 yards with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions and is completing 68 percent (187-of-276) ) of his passes. He ranks second nationally in passing efficiency and is Lafayette's all-time leader in single-season completion percentage. Curley earns his third career Patriot League Offensive weekly honor. For his career, he has completed 62.9 percent (385-612) of his passes, ranking first at Lafayette for career completion percentage. Curley recently moved into second place for single-season touchdowns, tying Frank Baur (1989) with 23, and his 39 career passing TD's place him fifth all-time at Lafayette. Curley is a History major who is enrolled in three classes this semester: Deviance (Anthropology & Sociology), Politics & Arts: 1919-1945 and Intro to World Music Traditions. No. 20 Lafayette is 4-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since 1994 and Saturday's matchup at No. 13/14 Holy Cross (8-1, 4-0) will decide the conference championship and the automatic berth into the NCAA Playoffs. Holy Cross eked out a 27-26 last-second win in the 2008 battle. The Leopards have won Patriot League titles in 1988, 1992, 1994, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
