Nov. 6, 2017

EASTON, Pa. – Freshman punter Michael Turk has garnered Patriot League Football Special Teams Player of the Week recognition following his efforts in a shutout of Georgetown on Saturday.

Turk played a crucial role in Lafayette’s 7-0 Patriot League win, affecting the field position game while averaging 44.7 yards per punt. He deftly placed three of those punts inside the Georgetown 10-yard line and delivered a long punt of 52 yards in the fourth quarter to help preserve the program’s first shutout victory since 2007.

Turk is averaging 43.1 yards per punt which would place him first in Lafayette program history for a single season. He has landed 17 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line and has 16 punts of 50 or more yards. Turk has also spent the entire season as the team’s holder on field goals and PATs.

At 3-1 in Patriot League play, Lafayette controls its own destiny in the race for the conference title, next hosting Colgate (3-1) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. before traveling to Lehigh (3-1) on Nov. 18 for the 153rd meeting of college football’s most-played rivalry.
