Frank Tavani to be Inducted into Central Chapter of PA Sports Hall of Fame

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette head football coach Frank Tavani will be inducted into the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, Nov. 13 in Lebanon, Pa., the chapter has announced.
Tavani was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame at Lebanon Valley College in 1988 and Lebanon Catholic High School in the inaugural class in 2004. He was a standout tailback throughout his career, earning team MVP honors twice in college. Tavani was the school's first player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season and was an Associated Press All-American as a senior. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in Psychology in 1975 and has completed postgraduate work in Counselor Education.
At Lebanon Catholic, Tavani earned all-conference honors and set the Tri-County touchdown record with 17 in his senior season, when he was a 1,000-yard rusher and led his team to the Tri-County championship. He was captain of the football and basketball teams as a senior, and received the Fred Fox Memorial Trophy as the MVP of the football squad.
His career at Lafayette has spanned 20 years, including the last seven as head coach. Tavani has led the Leopards to a share of the last two Patriot League championships and consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs, and has been a member of five Patriot League championship teams while on College Hill.
From 1976-85, Tavani was the offensive coordinator at Franklin and Marshall and helped guide the Diplomats to a 10-year record of 67-23-1. He was defensive coordinator at his alma mater in 1986 before taking over as Lafayette's running backs coach in 1987.
Tavani is one of six sports greats that will be inducted at the Lebanon Quality Inn. The induction ceremony and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $24 a person or $240 for a table of 10. To reserve tickets, please call Jeff Morrow at (717) 272-8956.
