Mputu Named P.L. Rookie of Week For Second Time in Three Weeks
Nov. 1, 2010
EASTON, Pa. - Freshman tailback Pat Mputu (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) only played the first half in Lafayette's 33-22 win at Bucknell on Saturday, but his efforts put the Leopards off to a quick start and earned him his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week selection in three weeks.
On the second play from scrimmage, Mputu took a short screen pass and turned it into a 75-yard touchdown catch. He finished with two catches for 84 yards and the score and seven carries for 55 yards on the ground. Mputu helped Lafayette to a 16-7 lead at the half, but did not play in the second half due to an ankle injury.
The freshman's 102-yard day vs. Stony Brook on Oct. 16 also garnered conference rookie of the week honors on Oct. 18.
Academically, Mputu has yet to declare a major, but is taking Modeling & Differential Calculus, 21st Century Literacies, Drawing I and Public Speaking during the fall semester.
Lafayette will wrap up a three-game road swing at Colgate on Saturday. The game will have special significance for Mputu whose brother, Jonathan, is a sophomore wide receiver for the Raiders.
