MATCH-UP: Lafayette (5-2, 2-0) entertains Georgetown (3-5, 0-2) on Family Weekend in Easton. The Leopards, who have won their last two outings, look to get back on track in the series as the Hoyas have won the last two meetings. Those two Leopard losses came by a combined five points, including a one-point setback in 2011. Lafayette is coming off a 30-17 beatdown of Holy Cross on Homecoming weekend, the Leopards' second win in as many tries in Patriot League play. Georgetown had the unfortunate opportunity to play the hottest team in the Patriot League last week, surrendering 707 yards of offense in a 57-36 loss at Colgate.
A WIN OVER GEORGETOWN...would make Lafayette 6-2 for the first time since 2008 (Lafayette was 7-1 in 2009). It would also put the Leopards at 3-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since 2009 and it would snap a two-game skid in the series. Additionally, it would give Lafayette wins over two teams (Holy Cross-2nd and Georgetown-4th) picked ahead of the Leopards in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
THE CENTURY MARK: Junior WR Mark Ross has registered four straight 100-plus yard receiving games. Ross had 12 catches for a career-best 168 yards and a touchdown grab. His 43-yard grab was the second-longest of the season. Ross made eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown at Yale. He had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown vs. Princeton (10/6). The week prior, playing in front of a hometown crowd at Robert Morris, Ross turned in the best receiving game of his career. The Aliquippa, Pa. native caught a school-record 13 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, tying Mark Layton's 13-catch effort from Nov. 13, 2010 vs. Holy Cross. Ross is the first Leopard player since John Weyrauch '04 to have four or more 100-yard receiving games. Weyrauch had six straight at the end of 2001 and the first two games of the 2002 season.
NATIONAL MARK: Junior WR Mark Ross is ranked 15th in the nation with 93.4 receiving yards per game and 16th with 6.6 catches per outing. He also leads the Patriot League in both categories.
INTERCEPTION NUMBERS: Lafayette is first in the nation in passes intercepted with 17 through seven games (2.4 per game). Lafayette had eight all of last season. Individually, sophomore safety Jared Roberts is fourth in the nation at .57 per game (4 INT in seven games) followed by three for Darius Safford and two apiece for Colton Kirkpatrick, Kyni Scott and Shane Black.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior Mike Boles has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. The middle linebacker had eight tackles and a game-clinching interception against Holy Cross on Oct. 20. It is the first such award for the Winter Park, Fla. native.
HOLY CROSS PRODUCTION: The Leopards' 30-13 win over Holy Cross was the team's highest scoring output of the season and, accordingly, the top yardage effort with 409 yards.
WINNING NOTE: At 5-2 with four games remaining, Lafayette has surpassed last season's win total, registering the most wins since 2009 when Lafayette was 8-3. The Leopards need at least one more win to guarantee a winning season in 2012.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN:Georgetown enters the weekend at 3-5 overall and 0-2 in Patriot League play. The Hoyas are coming off a 57-36 loss at Colgate. The week prior, things went down to the wire with current No. 8 Lehigh, with the Hoyas losing a 17-14 decision in their first Patriot League game.
• In terms of common opponents, Georgetown beat Princeton 21-20 on Sept. 21 and lost to Yale 24-21 on Sept 15. Lafayette did the opposite, losing 35-14 to Princeton while beating Yale 20-14.
• Georgetown finished 8-3 in 2011 and 3-2 in the Patriot League, tied for second in the league standings. Seventeen starters return, 10 on offense and seven on defense.
• Offensively, the Hoyas have been forced to use four different quarterbacks due to a rash of injuries at the position. Freshman Kyle Nolan is the latest entry on that list, starting the Colgate game. He completed 16-of-39 for 260 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in his first collegiate game action.
• Senior LB Robert McCabe leads the nation with 14.5 tackles per game. He had 17 stops against Colgate and is the program's career tackles leaders.
• Junior TB Nick Campanella is the team's top rushing threat, carrying 84 times for 420 yards with six TD's. WR Kevin Macari has five TD's to go along with 16 catches for 472 yards. He also leads the league in punt returns.
• Kevin Kelly (Springfield '82) is in his seventh season as the head coach at Georgetown.
