Bryant and Kordenbrock Honored by Patriot League
EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette's 10-7 win at Holy Cross in the Patriot League opener resulted in a pair of weekly honors for two Leopards. Senior linebacker Brandon Bryant was named the Patriot League football Defensive Player of the Week and freshman placekicker Jeffrey Kordenbrock was selected as the Rookie of the Week.
Kordenbrock's contribution was the game-winning, 43-yard field goal as time expired. The try was a career long for the freshman who has assumed the starting kicker role after a week-one injury to junior Jacob Bissell. Kordenbrock also garnered honorable mention status in the running for STATS FCS Special Teams Player of the Week.
Kordenbrock may never have had that opportunity were it not for the effort of the Lafayette defense led by Bryant. He finished with a season-high 15 tackles including two tackles for a loss (one sack) of 10 yards. Bryant's biggest stop came on 4th-and-1 at the Holy Cross 33 when he stuffed Diquan Walker for no gain and the Leopards took over on downs. Bryant leads the team with 11.6 tackles per game, ranking him second in the Patriot League.
Lafayette continues Patriot League play on Saturday, hosting Fordham at 3:30 p.m.
