O'Malley Garners Second Rookie of the Week Honor
EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette freshman quarterback Sean O'Malley (Beverly Hills, Calif./Loyola) has been tabbed as the Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week for the second time in the 2017 season.
O'Malley is coming off one of his best games in a brief Lafayette career, as he completed 30-of-44 for 325 yards (all career highs) with a pair of touchdowns against Princeton. One of his touchdowns was a 70-yard strike to junior WR Joey Chenoweth, who finished with four catches for 113 yards.
Through just four games, O'Malley has shown his ability to spread the ball around, connecting with seven receivers in the Princeton, Sacred Heart and Monmouth games, while hitting eight pass-catchers at Villanova.
His week-two performance against Sacred Heart garnered him his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor, completing 25-of-44 passes for 276 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in the home opener on Sept. 9.
O'Malley was the first Lafayette player in the Patriot League era (since 1986) to start at quarterback as a freshman. For the season, he is completing 61 percent of his passes (97-of-159) with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Lafayette opens Patriot League play on Saturday at Holy Cross at 1 p.m.
