HAZLETON, Pa. – Members of the Lafayette football program spent Thursday in Hazleton, volunteering with the Hazleton Integration Project, a community-based effort that seeks to unite people of many different cultures who call Hazleton home.

The day started when the student-athletes and coaches boarded the bus at 8:45 a.m. to travel to the Hazleton One Community Center. After a tour of the facility and lunch, the Leopards got to work, helping clean a local park.

The team members and coaching staff were able to interact with Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon ’76, who helped start the Hazleton Integration Project and was on hand to help out on an off day on the Cubs’ schedule.
