Lafayette Football to Host Bone Marrow Testing Drive on May 3

Go Leopards!

April 30, 2013

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette football program will host a bone marrow testing drive on Friday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Quad at Lafayette College. It marks the fifth straight year that the team will host the event.

Getting registered is a simple process that requires limited paperwork (bring a driver's license) and a painless swab of the inside of the registrant's cheek. Thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases depend on the National Marrow Donor Program Registry to find a match. Through the "Get in the Game. Save A Life" program, college employees and students and area residents can join the registry.

There are more than 21 million people worldwide who are registered as potential marrow donors. Still, there are only about 250 matches found each year, making it a 1-in-80,000 chance that a registered donor will be a match. Donors with diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds are especially critical as patients in need of a transplant are most likely to match someone of their own race or ethnicity.

For more information on the bone marrow testing program, contact the Lafayette football office at 610-330-5485.
