Leopards Set to Host Spring Game on Saturday
EASTON, Pa. -- The Lafayette football team, under first-year head coach John Garrett, will be on full display this weekend in the annual Maroon-White Spring Game. The action will get underway at 1 p.m. at Fisher Stadium.
"The spring game is really a continuation of the evaluation process to see who will be contributors on our team in a variety of roles," Garrett said. "We are looking for our players to step up, be noticed and compete for starting jobs and placed in all three phases of the game."
Slated for approximately an hour and 45 minutes, the intrasquad scrimmage marks the 15th practice and the culmination of the month-long spring practice season. For the contest, the offense will be wearing maroon and the defense white with units divided into "Lafayette" and "Leopards."
Normal game and clock rules will be used and the teams will play four, 15-minute quarters. The teams will alternate between 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 units by series.
Eight starters on defense and seven starters on offense, most of who are participating in spring ball, will return for the Leopards when they open summer camp in August, but Garrett has stressed that "there are no incumbents" when it comes to competition for places on the depth chart.
"I'm looking forward to seeing our team in more live scrimmaging and how they handle being in different situations and on a bigger stage that comes with the spring game," Garrett said.
Saturday's game will be broadcasted by the Lafayette Sports Network on RCN4 and 1004HD and available for online streaming at GoLeopards.com
