April 17, 2000
Easton, Pa. - Lafayette College's Jim Goff (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) signed a free agent contract with the New York Giants of the National Football League on Sunday, April 16. A 1999 Lafayette team co-captain, Goff (6-foot-4, 300-pounds) is capable of playing three positions on the offensive line -- guard, tackle, and long snapper.
Goff is the first Lafayette football player to sign an NFL free agent contract since Erik Marsh '95 signed with the New York Jets. B.J. Gallis '97 signed with the Canadian Football League's British Columbia Lions in 1997 and went on to earn CFL Western Division Rookie of the Year honors.
Goff, who graduated in December with a bachelor of science degree in engineering, started the final 32 games of his Lafayette career. He earned All-Patriot League honors in each of his last three seasons and team offensive line MVP honors this past season.
Lafayette concluded its 118th season of college football with a 4-7 overall record, and 2-4 and fifth place in Patriot League play. The Leopards' spring practices began April 1, and culminate with the Maroon-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 29, at 1:30 p.m. Lafayette opens the 2000 season by hosting Towson on Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
