O'Malley and Turk Added to Leopards' Recruiting Class

March 20, 2017

EASTON, Pa. -- The Lafayette football team added two more student-athletes to its 2017 recruiting class, as quarterback Sean O'Malley (Beverly Hills, Calif./Loyola) and punter Michael Turk (Dallas, Texas/Ridge Point) joined the Leopard recruiting list which has grown to 21 since the initial announcement on Feb. 1.

O'Malley will take the 2,700 mile trip from California to College Hill. He is the fourth quarterback to commit to first-year head coach John Garrett, joining signal callers from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. He graduated as his school's career leader in passing yards and touchdowns.

Turk, one of two special teamers in the class, comes from a football family, as his two uncles Matt and Daniel Turk played in the NFL, and his brothers Ben and Joe played at Notre Dame and Western Illinois, respectively.

"We are excited to add two more members to our 2017 recruiting class," said Garrett, the Fred M. Kirby II '42 Head Football Coach. "Michael and Sean are the right type of guys we want on our team and I look forward to having them part of our program."

Garrett's first incoming class now features 12 offensive players, seven defensive players (including one transfer) and two special teamers as part of the fifth scholarship class in the Patriot League era. There are five offensive linemen, four quarterbacks, two running backs and a wide receiver. The Leopards also added three linebackers, two defensive backs and two defensive linemen.

The Lafayette spring season will get underway with the first practice on March 21, concluding with the Maroon-White Spring game on April 22 at 1 p.m. The 2017 season commences Sept. 2 at Monmouth. The Leopards open at home a week later, hosting Sacred Heart. The regular season concludes Nov. 18 at Lehigh in the 153rd meeting of college's football's most-played rivalry.
