EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette football has signed 32 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the Class of 2014. It is the third-largest recruiting class in head coach Frank Tavani's tenure, trailing only those signed in 2000 and 2006, each of which had 35.

The Leopards' coaching staff recruited 17 offensive and 15 defensive players among the class. Offensively, there are five running backs (two tailbacks, two fullbacks and an H-Back), one quarterback, four offensive linemen, three wide receivers, three tight ends and an athlete/return specialist. Defensively, Lafayette brings in two linemen, six linebackers, three cornerbacks and four safeties.

The members of the Class of 2014 come to College Hill from eight states, with 11 players from Pennsylvania, four each from Florida, New York and New Jersey, three apiece from Massachusetts and Georgia, two from Ohio and one from Connecticut.

"We are extremely pleased with the talent and the depth of the entire class," Tavani said. "This year we placed special emphasis on size in the offensive and defensive lines, recruiting athletes at linebacker and stockpiling outstanding speed at the skill positions."

The offensive linemen average 6-4, 285 pounds while the defensive linemen will check in to preseason camp at an average of 6-3, 260.

The Leopard football program has been a consistent winner, ringing up a 22-11 mark over the past three seasons and a 44-25 clip since 2004 that included Patriot League titles in 2005, 2005 and 2006. Over the last six regular seasons, Lafayette is 22-10 in conference play and is the only Patriot League program to have a winning record in each while also being nationally ranked.

On Friday, April 16, fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2010 Leopards in action in the annual Maroon-White Spring Game. The scrimmage is set to begin at 6 p.m. under the lights of Fisher Stadium. Season tickets, which include a ticket to the 146th meeting of College's Football's Most-Played Rivalry with Lehigh, will go on sale that night.

Coming off an 8-3 campaign, Lafayette will open the 2010 regular season by hosting Georgetown on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
