Thompson Takes Over Leopard Defensive Reins

Thompson spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Georgetown, overseeing a 2016 team that finished first in the Patriot League in scoring defense (23.3 ppg) and red-zone defense and second in turnovers gained and third-down defense. During his tenure, he mentored defensive end Alec May who led the nation in sacks in 2014 and defensive back Ettian Scott who led the nation in passes defended in 2015.
For the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Thompson was the special teams coordinator and an offensive assistant coach at Army. In 2012, he coached the fullbacks for an offense that finished first in the FBS in rushing offense. That followed his first stint at Georgetown (2006-12) where he spent time as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
Thompson coached outside linebackers at Harvard during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, helping guide the Crimson to an Ivy League title in 2004. That season the defense limited its final six opponents to 14 points or fewer and surrendered just one touchdown in the final three games.
He served as an assistant coach at Amherst College from 2002-03, coaching the linebackers while coordinating video operations. He also spent 1999-00 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Holy Cross in his hometown of Worcester, Mass. Thompson began his coaching career in 1998 as the offensive line and tight ends coach at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
A 1998 graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.. Thompson earned his bachelor's degree in Foreign Affairs and Economics. He and his wife, Kristin, have two children, Madelyn and Luke.
