Ian Dell begins his sixth season as with the Lafayette football program and first with head coach John Garrett.
Dell took over the defensive line coaching duties in July 2013 after being promoted from tight ends coach.
In 2017, Lafayette will see three starters return to a defensive line that has the potential to stand out within the Patriot League ranks. Fifth-year seniors Matt Rothrock and Andy Labudev return at the tackle spots, both utilizing medical redshirt seasons. Rothrock missed all of 2016, but looks to reclaim the All-Patriot League laurels he secured in 2015. Senior Beau Bosch comes back at defensive end after starting 10 games in 2016 and 11 in 2015. They will be joined by juniors Lavel Ramsey, Andrew Chuma and Dante Lonardo and sophomore Demetrius Breedlove, all of whom saw significant playing time in 2016.
2016 was the final season for defensive end Collin Albershardt, a two-year starter who, like Labudev, racked up CoSIDA Academic All-District II honors and Academic All-Patriot League status.
In 2013, under Dell’s tutelage Steve Mercado achieved All-Patriot League Second-Team status as a sophomore.
Dell returned to College Hill in 2012, a place he was an All-Patriot League First-Team defensive lineman during his playing career.
A two-year starter, Dell was the team’s defensive MVP in his senior season of 2009 while earning College Sporting News All-America Honorable Mention status.
Prior to his second stint on College Hill, Dell spent two seasons as a defensive line coach at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. where he coached All-American defensive end Allen Petros. While at Moravian, Dell recruited in central Pennsylvania and central New Jersey.
A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Dell graduated from Lafayette in 2010 with a degree in Neuroscience. He is engaged to Morgan Litak and the two will be married in 2017.
