Lafayette Shoots Past Melsele Basics

MELSELE, Belgium - Lafayette registered an 81-63 victory on Saturday night against Melsele Basics. It was a costly win for Lafayette which started the excursion with eight relatively healthy players. Sophomores Joey Ptaisnki (ankle) and Jack Detmer (shoulder) both left the game with injuries and their status is uncertain for Monday's final game.

The Leopards jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. Detmer got the start at guard and scored six of Lafayette's first 12 points and the Leopards never trailed in their third game of the 10-day European Trip.
Five players scored in double figures for the Leopards led by 16 points apiece from Ptasinski and Seth Hinrichs Ptasinski had four three-pointers. Detmer and Dan Trist, who was coming off a 26-point game, each finished with 12 points while Rob Delaney contributed 14.
Lafayette will have Sunday off from competition, taking a day trip to Paris. The Leopards return to action on Monday in a re-match with the Under-20 Belgian National Team which handed Lafayette a 10-point loss in the first meeting on Friday.
NOTES: After gathering near the cathedral in the historic center of Antwerp, Lafayette spent Saturday afternoon in self-guided exploration of the city.
In a move of sportsmanship by Melsele Basics, Saturday's game was called with three minutes to play as the Leopards' injuries mounted and the outcome was not in doubt.
