May 22, 2012
HASSELT, Belgium - After a day of sightseeing in Brussels, Lafayette played the first game on its 10-day European trip. The Leopards played an Under-20 Select Team from Limburg, Belgium, winning 97-77 on Tuesday night.
Joey Ptasinski led the way for the Leopards, scoring a game-high 23 points on seven three-pointers.
Levi Giese added eight points while Seth Hinrichs had nine points. The Leopards will have an early-morning wake-up call on Wednesday, as they take a train trip to London in a day of sightseeing that will include a stop at Buckingham Palace.
NOTES: Former Old Dominion standout Odell Hodge was in attendance at Tuesday's game. Hodge, who scored 2,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds in college, has played for several top teams in Belgium. Brian Lynch, a former Villanova player and Belgian Pro, is the husband of Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters, a former world No. 1 in singles and doubles.
The teams played four 12-minute quarters with a slightly longer break at halftime.
A gentleman's agreement among the coaches and referees before the game meant that players on both teams would not be disqualified after a fifth foul. The Leopards were whistled for 22 fouls to 12 for Limburg.
The Leopards' ate their post-game meal in the bar/restaurant at the gym along with the opposing team and an ample crowd of locals.
All individual scoring totals from the night include a three-point margin of error.
