Stafford Earns Academic All-Patriot League Honors

Feb. 28, 2018

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Eric Stafford of the Lafayette men’s basketball team was selected as one of five members to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Stafford, a co-captain for the Leopards this season, carries a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average as an Economics and Government & Law double major. The Pitman, N.J. native has started all 30 games for the Maroon and White this season at point guard.

"Eric has been the definition of a student-athlete," head coach Fran O'Hanlon said. "He's a great role model for our team and is dedicated to giving his best both on the court and in the classroom."

Stafford provides a little bit of everything on the court for Lafayette, averaging 5.3 points, 3.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game in his senior year. His assist/turnover ratio of 1.8 ranks sixth among his Patriot League counterparts and he’s been an Academic Honor Roll selection all three times he’s been eligible in his career.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League awards, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The full academic award list can be found below. Stafford and the seventh-seeded Leopards are back in action in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday night, battling second-seeded Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. at 7 p.m.
