Mintz Caps Career With All-Patriot League Honors

Feb. 28, 2011

EASTON, Pa. - Senior forward Jared Mintz (Toronto, Canada/Vaughn Road Academy) has been selected to the All-Patriot League First Team while junior forward Ryan Willen (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Notre Dame) has been included in the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League Team announced on Monday.

Mintz leads the team in scoring (15.9 ppg) and rebounding (5.8) in his senior season while earning his second straight All-Patriot League First-Team nod. The Toronto native has been efficient during his career, shooting the ball extremely well both from the field (51.4 percent) and at the line (82.3) in 2010-11. After becoming the first player to lead the Patriot League in both categories last season, he is in line to become the first to finish in the career top 10 in both field-goal and free-throw shooting percentage.

Mintz is also just three rebounds shy of joining exclusive company at Lafayette, looking to join 11 other players who have scored 1,000 points and pulled down 500 rebounds. He has reached double figures in 27 of 29 games this season and is coming off a 26-point afternoon vs. American on Feb. 26.

Joining Mintz on the All-Patriot League First Team are Player of the Year Mike Muscala (So., C, Bucknell), C.J. McCollum (So. G, Lehigh), Vlad Moldoveanu (Sr., G, American) and Darryl Shazier (Sr, G, Bucknell). Navy's freshman J.J. Avila was named Rookie of the Year, Bucknell junior guard Bryan Cohen picked up Defensive Player of the Year honors and Bucknell's Dave Paulsen was named Coach of the Year.

Willen's place on the Academic All-Patriot League Team comes in a season when the junior has had to battle through a back injury. He is averaging 10.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while playing in all 29 games. Willen needs 34 points to become the 37th player in Lafayette history to each 1,000 for his career.

Academically, Willen has already been recognized with selection to the Capital One Academic All-District II First Team. The Neuroscience major maintains a cumulative 3.30 GPA and is currently enrolled in Psychopharmacology, Neauroanatomy with lab, Cultural Anthropology and Spanish.
