EASTON, Pa. – Senior point guard Tony Johnson was honored as the Patriot League’s Player of the Week after directing the Lafayette men’s basketball team to victories over Holy Cross and Lehigh. Johnson earns his first career Patriot League weekly award.

The Patriot League’s leader in field goal percentage went 18-for-24 from the floor, including 6-for-9 from distance, in the two games. Johnson also added to his conference-leading steals total with five on the week to push his season number to 60, which is tied for 24th in the nation. After going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, he improved to 71-of-89 on the season, good for 79.8 percent and fifth in the League.

Johnson hit the game-winning three-pointer with 3.5 seconds left to give Lafayette its only lead against Holy Cross and completed his second 20-point game of the season with the shot. The Economics major also handed out six assists, grabbed five rebounds and collected three steals in the win.

A native of Folsom, Calif., Johnson drilled a career-high five threes on five attempts and matched his career-high with 29 points as Lafayette swept the regular-season series against Lehigh. He connected on two of those threes after the score was tied at 64-64 to spark a 10-0 run for Lafayette to put the game out of reach and put the finishing touches on a 10-of-12 shooting performance. He also added four assists and two steals to move into a tie for seventh and fourth in the Lafayette record books, in each respective category.

Lafayette returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to play Colgate. Opening tip from Cotterell Court is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen on
