Petrie Named PL Rookie of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman Alex Petrie of the Lafayette men’s basketball team was awarded the Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Petrie led the Leopards in scoring in both games this past week, averaging 21.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as Lafayette knocked off Colgate at home and fell to Bucknell on the road. Petrie connected on 4-of-5 from three-point range for a game-high 23 points in the Colgate win, also adding seven rebounds. He followed that up with 19 points and five boards in Lewisburg on Saturday.
The Midlothian, Va. native has been sensational since the start of Patriot League play, leading the team in scoring in conference contests at 18.3 points per night. Petrie is shooting 50.0 percent from beyond the arc against Patriot League foes and has tallied double-figure scoring in each of his last nine outings.
In Lafayette’s pair of games against Holy Cross earlier this season, Petrie poured in 29 points each, setting the Lafayette freshman single-game scoring record on both occasions. The rookie went 7-of-8 from distance in the first outing and 6-of-9 in the second.
Petrie and the Leopards enter their next contest on Wednesday with a 6-17 overall record, sitting at 4-8 in Patriot League play. Lafayette has its next two games at home, hosting Army on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Loyola on Sunday at 12 p.m.
